The central business districts of Anamosa and Monticello are unique among many
smaller towns in the Midwest; they are thriving. Vacant storefronts are
rare/temporary and development groups have provided grants for facade
improvements. Nine banks in the 2 cities indicate a solid flow of money.
National and regional retailers are locating in this market.
One strong indicator of economic success is that Wal-Mart, located 1 mile south
of Anamosa Commercial Park on Hwy 151, has tripled the size of their store to
become a Super Wal-Mart.
